The Partnership for a Healthy Lincoln AmeriCorps program is the newest AmeriCorps program in Nebraska. The program has 12 AmeriCorps members who serve by facilitating wellness activities and programs at 8 schools across Lincoln. Partnership for a Healthy Lincoln partners with Lincoln Community Learning Centers (CLCs) to make their AmeriCorps program successful in their goal of helping the youth and families who participate in their program learn to make healthy and positive changes by implementing healthy habits.
Activities and skills which promote these healthy habits that AmeriCorps members are administering include growing and harvesting freshly grown produce, cooking healthy meals, and managing portion control. Studies show that when students eat healthy meals at school, there is a higher likelihood they will demonstrate better academic performance and decrease poor behaviors. Therefore, programs, like the Partnership for Healthy Lincoln AmeriCorps program, which educate participants on better food choices and nutrition, have the potential to have a huge impact on the lives and futures of beneficiaries!
